RET615 Introduction

RET615 is a dedicated device developed by ABB for the protection and monitoring of two-winding transformers, transformer banks and transformer groups, including generator-transformer units within power transmission and distribution systems. Detailed specifications of the device are as follows:

1. Product Features

  1. Multifunctional Integration

    RET615 integrates protection, control, measurement and monitoring functions into a single unit, delivering comprehensive protection and management for two-winding transformers.

  2. Flexible Configuration

    Eight standard configurations are available to adapt to various earth fault protection schemes for transformers with high-impedance or low-impedance neutral earthing modes. Digital compensation is built in to offset transformer ratio discrepancies and phase shifts of all connected transformers.

  3. Comprehensive Communication Support

    It complies with the IEC 61850 substation communication standard, supporting GOOSE messaging and IEC 61850‑8‑1 based parameter transmission. Meanwhile, it is compatible with DNP3 and IEC 60870‑5‑103 protocols, and supports PROFIBUS DP V1 via the SPA‑ZC 302 adapter. Redundant Ethernet communication is enabled through optional Ethernet interface modules.

  4. User‑Friendly HMI

    Equipped with a large LCD screen displaying editable single-line diagrams. Local access is available via the front panel HMI, plus remote browser-based web HMI access.

  5. Easy Installation & Maintenance

    Quick-connect, testable wiring terminals simplify on-site installation and routine maintenance work.

  1. Protection Functions

    Transformer differential protection with voltage supervision and measurement capabilities, compatible with high-resistance and low-resistance neutral earthing schemes. Optional arc flash protection and high-speed trip outputs further boost equipment safety.

  2. Measurement Functions

    Supports process bus communication for sampled value transmission per IEC 61850‑9‑2LE, acquiring analog voltage sampled measurements.

  3. Control Functions

    Local and remote control of transformer high-voltage side circuit breakers for remote operational management.

3. Application Scenarios

The RET615 transformer protection relay is widely deployed for transformer protection and supervision in power transmission and distribution facilities, covering (but not limited to) two-winding transformers, transformer banks, transformer groups and generator-transformer units.

4. Operation & Maintenance Guide

  1. Operating Interface

    The human-machine interface consists of display screens, single-line diagrams, measurement panels and a main menu navigation system.

  2. Status & Fault Indicators

    Built-in diagnostic LEDs including Ready, Start and Trip for real-time device status and fault alarm indication.

  3. Parameter Configuration

    Users can navigate between the main menu, single-line diagram view and measurement panels to view and modify all setpoint parameters.
